. This guide will help you update to the latest iPhone firmware 3.1.3 while keeping your jailbreak and unlock intact. This guide applies to all the iPhone’s – iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS:
You will need to first update/restore to the original iPhone OS firmware 3.1.3 on your iPhone by using the latest version of iTunes.
Download redsn0w 0.8 (download link given below) and start the application. Browse to the Original iPhone firmware OS 3.1.3 .ipsw file for your iPhone. Check the links below to download them. (NOTE: 3.1.3 not 3.2)
redsn0w will then verify to see if the .ipsw is valid.
Now redsn0w will automatically patch the original file.
iPhone 2G users can select both “Install Cydia” and “Unlock” options. iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users should only check on “Install Cydia” to jailbreak. Dont check the option for “Icy”.
Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.
At this stage you will be presented with the screen where you will have to quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.
Sit back and enjoy while redsn0w will do all the rest for you. Once done, your iPhone will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken with iPhone firmware version 3.1.3
To check whether your iPhone has been updated to 3.1.3
* Navigate to Settings
* Select General
* Select About. Your iPhone OS version should now be: 3.1.3 or later

First and foremost make sure your iPhone is updated to the 3.1.2 firmware. If you’re not yet running 3.1.2, update.
All good? Okay, next make sure your iPhone is not connected to your computer. Next you will need to download the following files:

Jailbreak Process

Now you will have to select whether you’d like Cydia, Icy, or both installed on your phone. You have to install at least one of them. Make sure your choices are checked and press next. *It seems some people are having issues with Cydia crashing instantaneously after launching it. So it may be wise to select Icy. Hold the “SHIFT” key and click the “Restore” button simultaneously. The iTunes file dialog will pop up for you to select the firmware file. Locate the “iPhone1,1_3.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw” that you have downloaded in previous step and click “Open”.
iTunes will then restore your iPhone with firmware 3.1.3 automatically. Keep your iPhone connected, don’t touch anything and wait until the process complete.
Your iPhone should completely restore to firmware 3.1.3. But it’s still locked right now.
Launch Unlock iPhone 3G 3.1.3 to start jailbreak & unlock. Make sure your iPhone connect via USB cable and then click blue button to proceed.

You are required to provide the firmware 3.1.3 IPSW file. Click “Browse” button to locate the “iPhone1,1_3.1.3_5H11_Restore.ipsw” were you had downloaded in Step 2. You should see a big tick if your firmware file is correct. Then click blue arrow button to proceed.
You are required to configure the settings for Unlock iPhone 3G 3.1.3. Normally, you could mark all checkboxes (i.e. Add Cydia, add installer, Replace boot logo & unlock iPhone). If you would like to keep the Apple logo already in your iPhone, just left “Replace boot logo” unmarked. Click blue arrow button to proceed.
Locate the bootloader 3.9 and 4.6 files that you have downloaded at Step 2 by clicking “Browse” button. Unlock iPhone 3G 3.1.3 will show a big tick if they are correct. Then click blue arrow button to proceed.
Make sure your iPhone should still be connected with USB cable. Unlock iPhone 3G 3.1.3 requests you to confirm it once again before unlock & jailbreak process will begin. If you’re ready, click blue arrow button to proceed.

After completion of process you should have a jailbroken iPhone running on firmware 3.1.3.

9. Once you have fully jailbreaked and unlocked your iPhone. You can now restore all your backup data you made in Step-2 from iTunes to your iPhone on newly installed firmware version 3.1.2.
